NBC to include third hour to 'The Voice'

NBC is raising the amount on "The Voice." The Peacock is adding another hour to the hit unscripted series Tuesdays at 9 p.m. beginning April 3. Financial terms of the deal were not announced, but the firms will operate under the Orchard name. Orchard CEO Brad Navin will become chief exec of the combined enterprise, while IODA CEO Kevin Arnold will take an advisory role on the company's board of directors. Founded in NY in 1997, the Orchard includes Barsuk, Cleopatra, Daptone, Frenchkiss and Nuclear Blast among its distributed labels. IODA, founded in the Bay Area in 2003, handles Allegro Distribution, Arts & Crafts, Cosmos Music Group and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. Combined company will service the full spectrum of online music, mobile platforms and video services, including iTunes, Amazon, Vevo and Hulu, as well as key physical retailers like Best Buy, Target and Newbury Comics. Navin said in a statement: "The Orchard and IODA were both founded to maximize opportunities for independent labels and artists. This deal opens doors for everyone by creating the preeminent platform for distribution, sales and marketing. Sigourney Weaver To Star In Greg Berlantis USA Network Series Political Animals

In her TV series debut, Sigourney Weaver is set to star in Political Animals, USA Networks 6-episode drama series from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, which premieres this summer. Written by Berlanti, the Washington DC-based series is a fictional look at a former first family that exposes a dynasty weakened by political ambition, lust and greed. It centers on Elaine Barrish (Weaver), the divorced former First Lady and newly appointed Secretary of State who throws herself into the job after recovering from the dissolution of her marriage and losing the presidential nomination. Barrish relies heavily on her son Doug (James Wolk), an ambitious politico who serves as her chief of staff, but is tormented by his twin brother’s struggles with addiction. With a philandering ex-husband who is still as much in love with her as the office he once held, she attempts to keep her family together, while simultaneously dealing with crises of the State Department and a hungry DC journalist bent on destroying her career. In addition to Wolk, Weaver joins previously cast Brittany Ishibashi as Dougs fiance. While launching with a short six-episode order, the Warner Horizon-produced Political Animals is envisioned as a regular series that USA brass hope will run for a number of years. Fake Empire books 'Madman's Daughter'

Aguirre-Sacasa"Glee" co-producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is in talks to adapt Megan Shepherd's upcoming young adult novel "Madman's Daughter" for Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Fake Empire banner.The gothic thriller, which is the first in a planned trilogy of books, will be published in January by HarperCollins' Balzer + Bray imprint. Paramount Pictures optioned the book for Fake Empire last August.Schwartz and Savage will produce via Fake Empire, while Lis Rowinski, who oversees the shingle's film business, brought the project in.Aguirre-Sacasa is a versatile scribe who's active in film, TV and theater, as well as comics. He rewrote the book for the Broadway show "Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark" and has been widely credited with making the show a success. He recently completed the script for MGM/Screen Gems' remake of "Carrie," based on the Stephen King novel. In addition to serving as a co-producer on Fox's hit series "Glee," for which he penned this season's episode "The First Time," Aguirre-Sacasa also co-wrote the first season of Marvel's new "Fantastic Four" comic with David Marquez.Best known as the banner behind the CW's hit series "Gossip Girl," Fake Empire's first film, "Fun Size," hits theaters in October. In addition to producing with Savage, Schwartz directed the pic from a script by Max Werner.
